**LAUNCH OF THE SIKH MANIFESTO 2015-2020 & 50 TARGET SEATS - OPEN INVITATION**
2015-01-31 at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Southall
You are all invited to the launch of the historic Sikh Manifesto on Saturday 31 January 2015 that is being hosted at Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Havelock Road, Southall, between 12 noon and 2.00pm.
Sikhs in the UK have prepared the first ever Sikh Manifesto for the political parties of Britain. Majority of the 700,000 Sikhs in the UK have a common agenda which they hope their respective political leaders will respond to.
Sikhs are one of the most law abiding citizens in the UK who have the lowest crime rate out of any other community and have contributed to the social and economic fabric of the country.
There are many issues which need attention such as the British involvement in 1984 attack, labeling of Sikhs as Asians, Britain recognizing the 1984 Sikh Genocide as a Genocide, raising voice against the turban ban in France and other important issues highlighted in the below manifesto.
Politicians have avoided the important issues concerning the Sikhs but now in a collective effort the British Sikhs have prepared their list of demands.
Gurmukh Singh has written a letter regarding the manifesto where he stated “The need for a “Sikh Manifesto” as a reminder to the political parties that the votes of over 700,000 Sikh in the UK do count, even if, regrettably, they are not counted or monitored under the current system for collating statistics by the Office for National Statistics! (That is another item of concern in the Sikh Manifesto). In this way the Sikh Manifesto would become part of the policy of the next government. It would also brief individual MPs of Sikh issues which they would be expected to represent on behalf of their Sikh constituents in the next Parliament.”
“The Sikh Manifesto would be specific to British Sikh needs; but it would be based on universal egalitarian Sikhi principles of equality and a level playing field for all. These are also the British values which unite diverse cultures and religions while sharing core human values as one nation.”
Spokesperson for the Sikh Federation UK states regarding the Manifesto: “Sikh Manifesto is a collective document for all UK sikhs and issues spread across the spectrum!
This years election provides a unique and historic opportunity for Sikhs to demonstrate we matter in UKpolitics and start a wave of change in Parliament that’s builds on the excellent reputation and contribution of Sikh in Britain for decades!”
