Dear [MPs name]

Negative actions by the UK Government towards the British Sikh community since Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister.

Please find attached an open letter signed and supported by over 350 UK Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations sent to Rishi Sunak on 24 April 2023 on negative actions by the UK Government towards the British Sikh community since he became Prime Minister. This letter would have been copied to you at the same time by the Sikh Federation (UK).

As a constituent I would find it helpful if you could write and challenge Rishi Sunak to explain why he has reneged on the assurances given by Boris Johnson to the British Sikh community on 7 July 2022, including the unexplained U-turn on the arbitrary detention of Jagtar Singh Johal In an Indian jail since November 2017.

As my MP I would also urge you to use your Parliamentary position to:

· condemn outrageous and dangerous commentary by the UK Government about British Sikhs being labelled as extremists or terrorists without evidence or substance;

· use every opportunity to publicly call out human rights violations against minorities and women in India and recognise the Sikhs basic human right of self-determination; and

· urge the UK Government to change its approach towards India by publicly condemning human rights violations and state sponsored atrocities.

I look forward to a speedy response to the points raised. A mass lobby of Parliament by Sikhs is being organised for mid-May 2023 on the Sikhs right to self-determination. I hope to attend the lobby in Central Lobby along with other constituents and would appreciate you make time when the date, time and Committee Room are confirmed.

Your sincerely,
